Investing in potential to create opportunities for others.
Every successful entrepreneur can point to a moment when a dream began to feel possible.
For Ashley White, that dream started in the family garage.
Armed with little more than a grooming table, a love for dogs and an unwavering determination to build something of her own, Ashley began welcoming clients one by one. She knew that success would not come overnight, but she also knew that every dog she groomed was another opportunity to build a reputation based on trust, quality and genuine care.
Like many women starting a business, Ashley faced the realities of limited resources, long hours and the uncertainty that comes with being self-employed. Every pound earned was carefully reinvested, every new customer was hard won and every recommendation became another step towards the future she imagined.
It was never simply about grooming dogs.
Ashley had a much bigger vision. She wanted to become one of the very best in her profession, continually developing her skills, learning from industry leaders and creating a business recognised for excellence. She dreamed of opening her own professional salon and, one day, training others who shared her passion for animal care.
The ambition was there.
The talent was there.
What she needed was the opportunity to take that next step. Receiving the Stacey’s Stepping Stone Award proved to be that turning point. The award enabled Ashley to invest in herself by undertaking specialist training she had always wanted to complete. Rather than seeing professional development as a luxury, she recognised it as an investment in the future of her business. The funding helped remove one of the barriers standing between where she was and where she wanted to be.
Like every Stacey’s Stepping Stone recipient, Ashley also benefited from a year of mentoring with Jenny Matthews, whose guidance and encouragement helped her develop not only as a business owner but also as a leader. Combined with the continued support of Jackie Hyde, whose sponsorship of the award reflects her commitment to investing in women with potential, Ashley found herself surrounded by people who believed in her ambitions as much as she did.
That belief became transformational.
Armed with new qualifications, greater confidence and a clearer vision for the future, Ashley expanded her business beyond the garage where it had all begun. She moved into dedicated premises and established what is now Signature Dog Grooming Academy & Salon—a respected business recognised for its professional standards, exceptional customer care and commitment to education.
Today, Ashley is doing far more than running a successful business.
She is training the next generation of dog groomers, sharing the knowledge and skills she worked so hard to acquire herself. Through her academy, she is creating career opportunities for others, raising professional standards within the industry and proving that investing in one woman’s ambition can create opportunities for many more. The garage where her journey began will always be part of her story, but it no longer defines it. It simply reminds us that every successful enterprise starts somewhere.
Women’s Economic Agency in Action
Ashley’s journey demonstrates that Women’s Economic Agency is about recognising potential before it reaches its full expression. It is about creating the conditions in which talent, determination and ambition can flourish.
The Stacey’s Stepping Stone Award gave Ashley more than financial support. It gave her the confidence to invest in herself, while mentoring provided the guidance to transform that investment into long-term success. Together, those opportunities enabled her to build not only a thriving business but also a training academy that now helps others build careers of their own. Her story perfectly illustrates the ripple effect at the heart of Women’s Economic Agency. One woman was given the opportunity to grow. She, in turn, is creating opportunities for countless others.
That is how Women’s Economic Agency works. It begins with belief, grows through opportunity and continues as each woman opens doors for the next.
That is Women’s Economic Agency in Action.
