Creating opportunity through conversation, connection and belief.
Some opportunities begin with an application.
Others begin with a conversation.
For Grace Robinson, that conversation took place at RISE, She Inspires’ leadership conference, where she shared her journey with honesty, courage and remarkable humility.
Grace had already achieved what many people only dream of. As an elite Paralympic swimmer, she understood the discipline, resilience and determination required to compete at the highest level. But behind every medal, every competition and every personal best lay another reality that many athletes quietly face—the constant challenge of finding the financial support needed to continue pursuing excellence.
Standing on the RISE stage, Grace spoke openly about the realities of elite sport. She spoke about the sacrifices, the setbacks and the determination required to keep moving forward when resources are limited. She wasn’t asking for sympathy. She was simply sharing her story.
Among those listening was Jackie Hyde, Managing Director of Stanmore Insurance Brokers. Like everyone else in the room, Jackie was inspired by Grace’s passion and commitment. But she also recognised something else. Talent alone is not always enough. Sometimes extraordinary people simply need someone to believe in them at the right moment.
The conversation that followed changed everything.
Rather than allowing Grace’s story to end when she stepped off the stage, Jackie and the team at Stanmore Insurance Brokers made the decision to sponsor her swimming journey. It was more than a sponsorship. It was an investment in a young woman whose determination, resilience and ambition reflected the very values they wanted to support.
For Grace, the sponsorship provided practical support at a crucial stage of her career. More importantly, it reaffirmed that her journey mattered and that others believed in her potential.
For everyone else in the room, it became a powerful reminder that leadership is not simply about listening to inspiring stories. It is about responding to them.
One conversation became an opportunity.
One decision became an investment.
One act of belief became the beginning of a partnership.
Women’s Economic Agency in Action
Grace’s story reminds us that Women’s Economic Agency is often created in the space between conversation and action. Too often, we hear inspiring stories, applaud them and move on. At RISE, something different happened. A conversation led to a meaningful connection, that connection inspired belief and that belief became practical support.
Women’s Economic Agency is not always about building a business or launching a social enterprise. Sometimes it is about creating the conditions that allow talented women to continue pursuing their ambitions. It is about recognising potential, removing barriers and understanding that investing in one woman’s future can inspire many others to do the same.
Grace’s journey also reminds us that opportunity rarely happens by accident. It happens because individuals and organisations choose to act. Jackie Hyde and Stanmore Insurance Brokers did more than sponsor an athlete; they demonstrated how business can become a force for positive social impact when it invests in people as well as potential.
The legacy of that moment extends far beyond one sponsorship. It has become a story that continues to inspire conversations about leadership, partnership and the power of believing in someone before they reach the finish line.
That is Women’s Economic Agency in Action.
