Women into Leadership // with Sandra McManus

I started a ‘Women into Leadership’ programme at the Sixth Form Bolton five years ago. Why? Because I have always believed that the girls in our sixth form were disadvantaged in their preparation for next steps, and in particular for the ‘world of work’. I saw so many young women working hard on their studies, but lacking the confidence and broader awareness to compete with their male peers in the workplace, for work experience placements and other opportunities. Since I was no longer as able to influence individual females in my classroom, as I no longer taught, I used my position and time to nurture, encourage and support our young women by setting up a college wide programme. And so our Women into Leadership programme was born.  The programmes aim, much like the ethos of She Ins...

SheInspires Community: Exciting Events to Look Forward to in February!

January has been an incredibly busy and inspiring month for the SheInspires community! We kicked off the year with our HealthConnect events, held in delivery partnership with Kildonan House and NHS England. These events brought together communities, healthcare professionals, and support networks to discuss vital health and well-being topics. On January 30th, we celebrated another major milestone—the launch of our Let’s Talk Money book series,  Moneysaurus Loves to Save, in partnership with MiniMinds Matter. Hosted at Eagley School House Nurseries, the event was a joyful gathering of nursery owners, parents, and children, filled with fun activities, an engaging book reading, and a special talk by Charlotte, the book’s talented designer and illustrator. It was a fantastic way to introduce...

Empowering Women, One Step at a Time: Introducing Stacey’s Stepping Stone Seed Grants

It’s an exciting time for us at SheInspires! We’re thrilled to announce that Stacey’s Stepping Stone Award is evolving into something even more impactful—a seed grant initiative to support women-led businesses. For the past four years, we’ve celebrated and uplifted women entrepreneurs through cash prizes designed to help them take their first steps. Time and again, we’ve seen how even a modest amount can spark incredible transformations: a new product launch, a business expansion, or simply the confidence boost to keep going. Now, we’re taking this initiative to the next level. Why Microbusinesses Matter Microbusinesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy. Together, they create innovation, jobs, and a sense of community. Women-led businesses, in particular, are making waves, co...

Taste of Bolton: Launching Our Virtual Kitchen

Since the dawn of humanity, food has been much more than sustenance—it has been a way to connect, to celebrate, and to bring people together. In early human history, sharing a meal around a fire wasn’t just about survival; it was a way to bond, share stories, and build communities. Across centuries and cultures, food has remained at the heart of human connection, from feasts marking life’s milestones to humble meals shared among neighbours. Today, in a world that often feels divided, food continues to be a powerful connector. It transcends language, geography, and even differences, reminding us of our shared humanity. At Taste of Bolton, we’re honouring this legacy by launching our Virtual Kitchen, an initiative designed to unite people through the simple, yet profound, act of...

Introducing the Stepping Stone Forum

In Memory of Stacey Withington Overview: SheInspire’s Stepping Stones is a ground-breaking initiative addressing the critical lack of funding and support for women entrepreneurs, particularly those running small, women-led micro-businesses. While women entrepreneurs receive less than 2% of venture capital funding globally, most of this is directed towards high-growth, high-tech businesses, leaving small and micro-businesses virtually invisible. These businesses, often the backbone of local economies and communities, struggle to access the funding and resources they need to thrive. SheInspire’s Stepping Stones fills this void by focusing on women entrepreneurs overlooked by traditional funding systems. Building on the success of the Stepping Stone Award, now in its fifth ye...

2025: A Year to Inspire Health and Connection

The New Year is here—a fresh start, a blank canvas, and 365 opportunities to create a brighter, healthier future for our communities. At SheInspires, we’re stepping into 2025 with an unwavering commitment to transforming lives through health, empowerment, and connection. This January, we’re proud to launch HealthConnect, a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with Kildonan House Surgery and funded by NHS England. These four events aren’t just about health checks and flu jabs—they’re about breaking barriers, building trust, and bringing healthcare to where it’s needed most. At our first Health Connected event, the stories were powerful. Women shared how work, time, and cultural hurdles had kept them from vital health services like smear tests for over a deca...
