A BOLTON woman who lost six members of her own family to Covid has been honoured with a Key Worker award. Meena Patel was recognised for inspiring both her patients and fellow staff. A BOLTON-based awards ceremony has had to extend the number of potential winners being chosen after receiving a huge worldwide response. The SheInspires Awards event will have 145 finalists in 18 categories on November 25 at Bolton Whites Hotel as well as live online, and will be presented by BBC North West Tonight’s Annabel Tiffin. THE lives of women from across Bolton are being showcased at an event at the Manchester International Festival. The book 100 Women, 100 Stories are included in eye-catching artwork Big Ben Lying Down With Political Books which was unveiled in Piccadilly Gardens on July 2. The 42m sculpture of London’s landmark clocktower by Argentine artist Marta Minujin will lie almost horizontally and covered in 20,000 copies of 150 books which have shaped British politics. A BOLTON businesswoman has donated a £1,000 prize to help boost the plans of women in the UK and around the world. Jackie Hyde, Managing Director of Stanmore Insurance based in Little Lever, put forward the cash prize as part of the SheInspires Awards. These annual awards, which began in Bolton seven years ago, went national last year and global this year for the first time. Entries have come in from Denmark and Indian, the US, UAE, South Africa and Australia among many countries and there are 145 finalists in the 18 categories. Read more on the Bolton News.

BOLTON-based awards which annually highlight inspirational women are already proving a worldwide hit this year. Nominations for the She Inspires Awards have attracted nominations from countries including Kenya, Nepal, Malaysia, America and Sri Lanka as well as from across the UK. In fact, there are already 1,188 nominations in so far. INSPIRATIONAL women who have made a difference to others were celebrated in a glitzy online ceremony. The sixth annual Inspire Awards had to be staged virtually this year because of the pandemic, but preparations are underway to hold a reception for the winners when it is safe to do so.
