Live Literature brings renowned writers to Bolton

Two of the North West’s most celebrated poets are coming to Bolton as part of a series of new cultural events being held at Bolton Central Library in partnership with the University of Bolton. The Live Literature Series is a trio of free performances by renowned poets and novelists taking place at the Library. The first session is on Tuesday 15 October with readings from acclaimed poets, Mike Garry and Kim Moore.

Mike Gerry is a multi-award winning, internationally renowned poet and a proud Mancunian. He is also a regular cultural commentator for the BBC and has written two critically-acclaimed books about his beloved home city – Mancunian Meander and God is a Manc. He is also often asked to write poems about the city for significant cultural events and major campaigns. In 2012, Manchester United commissioned Mike to write a poem to launch Nike’s Made in Manchester campaign. The poem, called ‘The Threads that Weave’, received praise from around the world.

Mark will be joined by Cumbria-based poet, Kim Moore, who has won many writing awards including the Eric Gregory Award and the Geoffrey Dreamer prize. In 2012 she was one of three winners of the Fermoy International Poetry Anthology Competition.

In the same year, her first pamphlet, ‘If We Could Speak Like Wolves’, was a winner in The Poetry Business Pamphlet Competition, judged by Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy.
