The Let’s Talk Money initiative was founded by Gulnaz Brennan with a simple but powerful mission: to make financial literacy a right, not a privilege.
Launched three years ago through Orange Hubs, podcasts, and webinars, the programme began by supporting women in understanding and reclaiming their financial autonomy. Gulnaz encountered story after story — women trapped in financial coercion, overwhelmed by debt, manipulated by fraud, or simply afraid to ask questions about money. These weren’t just financial issues; they were human rights issues.
And then came a moment of clarity:
If we want to change women’s futures, we have to start with children.
That’s when Let’s Talk Money began its journey into education — into nurseries, primary schools, and youth settings — with a new friend to lead the way:
Molly the Money Butterfly.
Molly is not just a character — she’s a symbol of confidence, curiosity, and care. With her bright wings and playful spirit, Molly teaches children to think about saving for tomorrow, spending with intention, and sharing with heart.
In June 2025, Molly fluttered into two Greater Manchester schools:
🦋 St Peter’s Primary School
🦋 All Saints Primary School
And there are more schools lined up in the months ahead.
At St Peter’s, Molly was joined by our brilliant Let’s Talk Money Champion, Lynn Williams — a She Inspires Award winner, trusted judge, and recently retired head teacher of an outstanding primary school in Farnworth. Her wisdom and leadership have been instrumental in shaping how we bring this initiative to life inside the classroom.
Thanks to Lynn, the children didn’t just learn about pounds and pence.
They asked bold, thoughtful questions:
💬 What would I do with £5 — for me, and for the world?
💬 What makes something worth saving for?
💬 How can I help someone else?
These aren’t just money lessons — they’re life lessons.
They teach empathy, empowerment, and decision-making.
And the need is urgent.

Research from Cambridge University (2013) shows that money habits form by age 7.
Yet only 38% of children aged 7–17 say they’ve learned about money at school (Money & Pensions Service).
Let’s Talk Money fills that gap — with stories instead of spreadsheets, and confidence instead of confusion.
We are now inviting more primary schools, early years settings, and organisationsto join us.
If you would like Molly the Money Butterfly to flutter into your classroom and spark a new generation of financially confident children, we’d love to hear from you.
Because when you teach a child about money,
you don’t just change their pocket —
you change their path.
